Sodium polysulfide is a chemical compound characterized by the general formula Na2Sx, where 'x' represents a chain of sulfur atoms (polysulfide anion,  typically ranging from 2 to 5.

It exists as dark red, highly alkaline, and corrosive solids that are soluble in water. Sodium polysulfide is primarily used as a precursor in the production of polysulfide polymers (synthetic rubber and sealants). It also finds diverse applications as a depilatory agent in the tanning industry for removing hair from hides and as a fungicide and insecticide in agriculture (often in the form of lime-sulfur mixtures). It is also a key component in sodium-sulfur (Na/S) batteries.
